Dear Friend,

Welcome. We created The Respite Project as an invitation to pause. To step away from the pace and expectations of everyday life and make room for something we don’t always give ourselves enough of: Rest.

This weekend is a chance to exhale.
To soften.
To come back to your body and listen to what it has been asking for.
To spend time in nature, share nourishing food, move gently, laugh, create, reflect, and connect with other women.

You may arrive with a friend. You may arrive on your own. However you arrive, you will find yourself surrounded by a community that feels safe, welcoming, and real. Together, we’ll explore what it means to be rooted in ourselves, in our bodies, in nature, and in one another.

We’ll explore nourishment, sleep, hormonal changes, Ayurveda, and the ways our bodies and needs evolve as we move through life. We’ll practice yin, restorative, and SomaYoga. We’ll journal, create, cook, breathe deeply, warm ourselves in the sauna, and perhaps venture into the snow and the woods and enjoy the stillness of the frozen lake.

This weekend isn't about becoming better at taking care of yourself. It isn't about adding another thing to your list. There is no should here. No perfect practice. No right way to rest. Instead, we invite you to notice.
What feels nourishing?
What helps you feel grounded?
What does your body need right now?
What might you discover when you permit yourself to slow down?
Let yourself be held for a little while.
Let yourself receive.
Let yourself enjoy the simple gift of being together.

Perhaps you will leave feeling restored. Perhaps you'll discover something new.
Perhaps you'll remember something you had forgotten. Or perhaps you'll simply leave feeling a little more like yourself. Whatever you find here, we are glad you are coming.

Welcome to The Respite Project.

With warmth,
Your Respite Project Hosts
Molly McManus & Sara Duke

At Mar de Jade, you’ll be situated at the foothills of a tropical jungle, nestled between the mountains and the warm shores of the Pacific Ocean. Each morning you’ll awaken to the luxury of ocean air and bird sounds…. and you’ll feel your biorhythms readjusting to the swish of gently lapping ocean waves. Indulge your senses and invigorate your soul in this luxurious haven, where every moment is an opportunity for profound renewal and restoration.

Fluffy highland cows and sprawling hills … valleys, lochs, bagpipes and magic. The history and landscapes that inspired Outlander, Highlander and Braveheart.

In partnership with an award winning wilderness reserve, these dramatic glens, colorful hills, glistening rivers, lochs, and wild nature will capture your heart.

Our private property spans 23,000 acres and for the last 20 years has been a labor of love and selfless commitment by its caretakers. A million trees have been planted, damaged peatlands repaired, and native species reintroduced. Free roaming highland cows, wild salmon and trout and more are restoring balance on the land. The Scottish wildcat, on the brink of extinction, has gone from a believed 50 to a current 150+, in part because of the enclosures on the reserve in partnership with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland to safely breed and bolster the population, releasing these special lions of the Highland back into their natural habitat.

We’ll start our week with an expertly guided 4 x 4 tour of the reserve, getting acclimated to our home for the week and venturing down the reforested glens to soak up the stunning views. We’ll learn about the restoration work underway, visiting the reforestation areas and spotting native wildlife, all in the company of  skilled and knowledgeable rangers.

Look to the skies for golden eagles, search the stony tops for ptarmigan and hares, while keeping your eye out for our native red squirrel and black grouse. Take in the panoramic glens, the untamed rivers, the old-growth and recovering forests. You might spy red deer stags on the mountains or Atlantic salmon leaping in the waterfalls.  Away from light pollution, we’ll be at one of the best places for astrophotography in the UK.  Long haired highland cows roam the property, and we’ll receive a special tour of the Scottish Wildcat enclosures built in partnership with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and the European Nature Trust to bolster the population of this endangered species.
