Italy Retreat

May 16-22, 2024

I loved everything about this trip. Enough options each day to fill the day, but with no obligations. Kind group and great yoga classes. I’d do it again and will rave about it to my friends.

Scroll through a selection of our photos from Italy!  Ann & Molly led a group of 25 on the stunning Italian Rivera, where the mountains meet the sea on the Ligurian Coast of Italy. The destination was the picture perfect peninsula of Sestri Levante where the crowds are few in comparison to the neighboring villages of Cinque Terre. We filled our days with lounging, swimming, hiking and exploring the neighboring towns (including Portofino, Santa Margherita and Camogli).

Our yoga adventure vacation took us to the famed Italian Rivera where we stayed at Hotel Vis a Vis, located on the peninsula of Sestri Levante.  Perched high above  this most charming seaside town, we had the best views of peninsula that straddles the Bay of Fairytales and the Bay of Silence.

Molly and Ann are the absolute best Yogi’s and instructors. They both live and breathe the yoga principles of acceptance and centeredness. Their key individual attributes are kindness, inclusivity, adventurous, calm, trustworthy, and FUN. We enjoy the people that go on their trips.

Reflections on Serenity and Adventure: Yoga North's Unforgettable Trip to Sestri Levante (by Molly McManus)

Returning from a trip like our adventure to Sestri Levante, Italy, hosted by Yoga North and One Yoga Global and guided by our onsite guide Laurel, Ann Maxwell, and myself has me moving into the bright days of summer with an intention to enjoy each the day the best I can. I hope to explore my hometown of Duluth with the same spirit we brought to our days in Italy. It also has me remembering fondly another great experience of travelling in community and looking forward to the next epic journey.

Imagine waking up to the sights of the Ligurian Sea out your window, breathing in the wonderful Mediterranean air, having your morning cappuccino and then walking to the garden to start your day with a therapeutic SomaYoga session under the Italian sun. This was the magical experience we shared on Yoga North’s recent trip to Sestri Levante, a charming coastal town nestled between the Ligurian Sea and the lush hills of Italy. Our days were filled with a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion, making this trip an unforgettable journey for all.

Hiking Through Italian Landscapes

After our morning yoga, each day we set out to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Sestri Levante. The region is known for its scenic hiking trails, and we took full advantage of this natural beauty. From coastal paths offering panoramic views of the sea to trails winding through verdant hills, towns and even an old abbey, each hike was a feast for the senses and a wonderful opportunity to bond with fellow travelers. In addition to this some of our crew stayed local and hiked their way through the charming towns for shopping and the daily gelato fix!

Kayaking Adventure

For those seeking a bit more adventure, kayaking in the crystal-clear waters of the Ligurian Sea was a must. Paddling along the stunning coastline, we saw the beauty of Sestri Levante in its entirety.  The beaches, the cliffs, the colorful buildings and terraced vineyards gave us the beauty of the region from a unique perspective. Our guides were triathletes who supported us the whole way, even bringing back kayaks of those who wanted a shorter paddle so they could make their way to the evening aperitivo early!

Culinary Delights, Wine Tasting, and Pesto Making Class

Italy is synonymous with exquisite food and wine, and our trip would not have been complete without indulging in these delights. We visited a local family who has been growing wine for centuries where we tasted some of the finest wines Liguria has to offer, learning about the history and craftsmanship behind each bottle.

One of the highlights of our trip was also the hands-on pesto-making class. Guided by a local chef, we learned the art of crafting traditional Genovese pesto using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The rich aroma of basil, garlic, pine nuts, and Parmigiano-Reggiano filled the air as we pounded the ingredients with mortar and pestle, creating a delicious and authentic Italian sauce to savor. There was even a prize for the best pesto awarded to one of our retreat participants.

All of our meals were spent dining on delectable Italian cuisine, from fresh seafood to handmade pasta. The balance of meals enjoyed in the company of our wonderful travel community with those that were left for us to adventure to on our own was perfect. I found I loved a special panini shop and would wander there whenever I could for olive focaccia.

A Beautiful Travelling Community

The heart of this journey was the incredible community we formed. Our group was made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds, from all over the US and Canada all brought together by a shared love of SomaYoga, adventure, and a desire to experience the world. The mix of couples, friends and solo travelers was delightful!

We laughed, shared stories, climbed many Italian hillside staircases, ate lots of pasta, and created memories that will last a lifetime. The balance of together time and time for personal adventures is always considered when we structure out time, for those that need “me time” we have you in mind.

Iceland Summer Retreat

August 12-19, 2023

Iceland is a country of contrasts! We experienced Iceland’s beauty in winter in 2021, so we wanted to go back and have a chance to see it in summer as well in 2023. We visited Akureyri in the north again and marveled at the beauty in those long daylight hours in this gorgeous country!

Galapagos Retreat

2 groups: October 15-22 and 22-29, 2022

This trip was on my bucket list for a long time and I’m so glad that I finally got to go. It was everything that I hoped for and more! The animals and landscapes were amazing, the naturalist guides were very knowledgeable, and the accommodations were great. I was also lucky enough to travel with an amazing group of people that got along so well.

I’ve taken classes and worked with Ann and Molly for many years. Individually they are gifted, intelligent teachers who keep growing their knowledge, skills, and wisdom. Together, they make a dynamic pair whose strengths compliment each other.

Very impressed with One Global Yoga from initial planning, financing stages through coordination/organization of the daily schedules, transport and details of the entire trip… did not have to think about a thing! We were in wonderful hands! :))
