Wow. I didn't know, when I made the leap of faith to try teaching yoga, if I actually had it in me. In the past, I've usually liked to 'know' I could do something, and do it well, before I even bothered to try. How limiting!! I like to read the books, take the trainings, do everything possible to prepare and then maybe… eventually… I'll actually do what I invested so much time and energy preparing to do. This time, I went off the deep end. I pursued teacher training to take me further down the path, as well as to enhance my own understanding and practice.

When I combined the two in this teacher training– the passion in my heart with the power of the Yoga North Teacher Training program– it was phenomenal. I felt a new ease and clarity in preparing my lessons. I unearthed a more visible confidence and comfort on and off the mat as a teacher. I developed a more keen eye to observe my students' needs, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. I sensed a much deeper connection to my students– instead of wanting to impress them and please them, I was impressed by them and pleased to get to practice with them. Instead of trying to show how much I knew to gain their credibility, I tried to absorb as much as I could from them to gain their wisdom. The relationships built in an extremely short period of time, simply through the aura of those who love yoga all coming together to practice and share that love, were rich and beautiful. The conversations shared after class impacted my thinking and opened my mind significantly.

As I write now, I realize that the experience felt simultaneously more personal, and more unified with others, than anything I've ever experienced or been a part of. I was so touched by how each student brought his or herself fully to the class, and I miss each one of them tremendously. I cherish all that I gained from this teaching experience. Every student truly left a footprint on my soul.
