Yoga North began when Joie Acheson taught her first Kundalini yoga class in the gazebo of Julie Eckman’s home in the spring of 1995.

Soon after, Joie and Pat Nolen returned from Summer Solstice and were so inspired to share yoga that they began Yoga North.  They rented the school room at St Michaels Lakeside School that remains to this day the Yoga North studio.

Yoga North was officially registered with the state of Minnesota in March of 1996.

In March of 1999, Pat moved out of state and Deborah Adele began a partnership with Joie Acheson.  During that time, classes were added, the first retreat was held, and the Yoga North store began.  This was also the year that Joie created the Yoga North tag line:  Find Your True North.

In December of 2001, Joie took a teaching position at UMD and Ann Maxwell stepped in to partner with Deborah on the day of the Winter Solstice.

During the partnership of Deborah and Ann, the studio added an office, a website, fresh paint, multiple offerings, multiple styles of yoga, multiple staff, and registered teacher training at the 200 hour and 500 hour level.

Yoga North has flourished under the guidelines of the yogic ethical system and in 2008 became an LLC.

At Yoga North, we believe in the discipline of practice, the curiosity of exploration and experiments, the goal of freedom, and the power of a loving, supportive community.

Come to Yoga North to restore your soul, feed your mind, and explore your body. Your teachers at Yoga North are committed to your systematic development in postures, breath, meditation, and towards the goal of knowing yourself. Yoga North Studio provides quiet reflective space for this self-study and exploration.
