Getting Started

Welcome & Namaste

We want your first experiences with yoga to be comfortable and fun. Familiarize yourself with the information in this section to learn the benefits of yoga, classroom etiquette, and how to register for classes.

Please note that we have two types of classes at Yoga North: Registration and Open (signing up works a bit differently for each). We recommend starting with a beginning registration class if possible, depending on your previous experience/ skill level. Familiarize yourself with our schedule and speak with staff to determine the best fit for you.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call the studio office at 218.722.YOGA.

We truly look forward to practicing with you.

Preparing for Class

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your first practice. This will give you time to finish registration, meet the instructor, have any questions answered, and get settled.
  • When you arrive please remove your shoes in the lobby area.
  • Wear comfortable clothing to stretch easily.
  • Yoga is best practiced with bare feet and on an empty stomach (avoid eating 1-2 hours beforehand).
  • For the comfort of others, please avoid wearing perfumes, colognes, or smoking cigarettes before class.
  • Bring your yoga mat if you have one. If you don’t own one, we can provide mats and props (also available for purchase at either studio).
  • Inform your instructor if you have injuries, are pregnant, or have any medical conditions that may require caution.
  • Turn cell phones, pagers and other electronic devices off before class begins.
  • Enter the yoga studio quietly to support our meditative environment, and always arrive to your class on time.
  • Learn to be with ‘what is’. When you come to class, let yourself be who you are and how you are. Yoga is about knowing yourself, not trying to change yourself.
